Story

This year we are participating in Bridge to Brisbane and walking to help raise funds for our Pallara State School Chaplaincy service, which will go towards keeping our school chaplain, "Chappy Hayley", in our school 2.5 days per week providing support to our 850 students, staff and school community.

The Qld Department of Education role of a chaplain is “to provide social, emotional and spiritual support to students, parents and staff”. At Pallara State School this involves:

Pastoral care - The core of the chaplains role is to be available for students to talk to. The chaplains role isn’t to offer a counselling service but a listening ear to anyone in the school community who would like to chat and/or work through an issue confidentially. Issues Chappy Hayley talks with students about include things such as family separation, anxiety, depression, managing big emotions, resilience & self-esteem et cetera.

Breakfast Club - The Chaplaincy program runs a breakfast club on Thursdays each week, with the help of volunteers, to make sure that every student has the chance to have food in their tummy before heading into class to learn.

Extra Curricular - Chappy Hayley runs a lunchtime 'mind games' activity with a community volunteer each week, and will run other activities for the school community later this year including "Chappy's Campout" and school discos.

Positive Role Model - Chappy Hayley is often 'out and about' before and after school, during break times and at school events, being a positive role model to students and developing positive relationships within the school community.

We appeciate your support, which is vital to continue the work of chaplaincy at Pallara State School.

Donations made through this platform are secure and Tax-Deductible, and will be remitted directly through Pallara State School (Scripture Union Chaplaincy).

SU Australia school Chaplains, or 'Chappies', support the holistic wellbeing of our school communities across Australia. Chaplains provide a listening ear and a caring presence for children and young people in crisis. They also provide support for staff and parents in school communities. Support is provided through one-on-one support, running small groups and other community activities. School Chaplains make a difference, and are loved by their communities.
