Story
Hey everyone!
This year I am participating in Bridge to Brisbane and running 10km for Ovarian Cancer Australia, a cause that is close to my heart and who are doing some amazing work.
Ovarian cancer is a malignant tumour in one or both ovaries. It is the eighth most common cancer in Australia and about 1400 Australian women are diagnosed each year. The main risk factor is age and commonly affects women over 50. Ovarian cancer can be difficult to diagnose at an early stage, largely because symptoms are so vague and there are currently no early detection screening tests. So if you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to see your doctor!
Ovarian Cancer Australia is an independent, national, not-for-profit organisation, supporting women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Their focus is to provide care and support for those affected, while also raising funds to support Ovarian cancer research and improving quality of life and survival rates.
* Ovarian cancer has the lowest survival rate of any women’s cancer. In Australia, the overall five-year survival rate is 46 % compared to 96% for breast cancer.
* Ovarian cancer receives less than 25 per cent of the funding of other, less deadly cancers.
* Four times as much money is spent on breast cancer than ovarian cancer.
You can support my efforts and help me reach my fundraising goal by making a secure online donation straight through to Ovarian Cancer Australia. Together we can make a big impact on race day!
Thank you so much for your support!
